Film Director Jack Neo, founder of J Team Productions, is truly a local entertainment legend. He is a great man with humble origins. He believes everyone has his own road to success and he upholds his beliefs throughout his 30 years of relentless contribution towards the local entertainment industry.
During the 1990's, he won the local audience over with his signature comedic hosting style in variety programmes. Apart from hosting and acting then, he was the creative brain behind the longest running local and high rated variety show, "Comedy Night" «搞笑行动».
The popularity of the decade-long production is a strong testament of Jack's remarkable talents and creativity.
The unprecedented scope of Director Jack Neo's talent encompasses all the major disciplines - acting, directing, singing, lyrics composing, producing and scriptwriting. To excel in just one area is rare; to excel at the lot is nothing less than extraordinary.
Following his success in television productions, Director Neo took on new challenges and ventured into the film industry in 1998 with "Money No Enough", Singapore's highest grossing feature film to-date. Consequently, he scripted, directed and produced a successful string of coveted movies namely, "I Not Stupid" «小孩不笨», "Homerun" «跑吧!孩子», "The Best Bet" «突然发财», romantic comedy "I Do I Do" «爱都爱都», "One More Chance" «三个好人»and "I Not Stupid Too" «小孩不笨 2».
Director Neo's movies wrote a new milestone for the local film industry. Besides garnering record high box office earnings, his later works drew much regional and international attention. Among his well-commented works, "Homerun" «跑 吧!孩子»won the first international movie award for Singapore. A total of six international awards were honoured to the movie including the International Kids Film Festival of Home Iran 2003's "Best Director" title.
Today, Director Jack Neo is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Singapore. His contributions to the local film industry have earned him honourable mentions from former Prime Minister Mr. Goh Chok Tong's national address in 1998 and 2003.
In recognition of his achievements and contributions towards Singapore's media industry, Film Director Jack Neo was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and Multi-Talent Award in 2004 from MediaCorp Singapore in Star Awards. He also received the Public Service Medal Award in August 2004 and the Arts Cultural Medallion Award in October 2005.
